Principal Member of Technical Staff - Solution Architecture

As Principal Member of Technical Staff in the GPU Libraries group, you will provide technical leadership and strategic support across the AMD Radeon Open Ecosystem (ROCm) ecosystem. This role focuses on customer-centric technical solutions to solve critical business challenges and drives the key organizational initiatives which support customer success. You will work cross-functionally with a team of talented computer scientists, software developers, and applied mathematicians working on GPU libraries for high performance computing and machine learning workloads. This position requires a breadth of expertise and wisdom that has been cultivated from past successful customer engagements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deeply understand customer business objectives, act as the premier external technical ambassador, representing our teams and inspiring customer confidence. Work to establish technical requirements, identify gaps, and coordinate prioritization leading to resolution. Design and document comprehensive customer-centric technical solutions ensuring alignment with customer needs and best practices.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to customers and internal teams throughout the solution and broader software libraries lifecycle. Lead or participate in the development of POCs and prototypes to validate proposed solution architectures and demonstrate solution feasibility.
  • Effectively communicate architectural designs, technical concepts, and solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences, including customers and internal engineering. Contribute to technical statements of work and proposals and improve or create knowledge repositories.
  • Continuous improvement – seek opportunities to improve processes and methodologies based on customer feedback, industry trends, and lessons learned from past engagements.
  • Work broadly and collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers, system architects, and product managers to enable the delivery of key roadmap deliverables.
  • Independently research and analyze state-of-the-art techniques and algorithms for the advancement of performance, accuracy, and throughput of the ML/AI ecosystem based on AMD software libraries.

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Strong C++ and Python programming skills with relevant applied experience using CUDA, HIP, OpenMP, MPI, or OpenCL for accelerated computing on CPUs and GPUs.  
  • Knowledge of AI/ML Frameworks, Operators, Patterns, and Architectures. Familiarity with applied use of TensorFlow, PyTorch, and JAX.
  • Experience providing clear and timely communication related to status and other key aspects of the project to leadership team and external stakeholders. Experience with open-source software development including collaboration with community maintainers and submitting contributions.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated self-management capability.

 

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • Advanced degrees, such as M.Sc., M.Eng., Ph.D. are preferred
